History O’ Hip-Hop
The Music world is such a big place it’s hard to find where any genre of music started. Music dates way back basically to when time began. However the specific type of music were talking about is actually relatively new. Hip-hop. Starting in the 1970’s on the streets of Bronx, New York like a friendly game of trying to lay out as many rhymes as possible but at the same time trying to make a story out of it. Although what really made the music emerge was when a group called “the ghetto brothers” started throwing block parties, hooking up their amp’s and playing music in attempt to break racial barriers.
A particular person who really helped get Hip-Hop off the ground was “DJ Kool Herc” He took pre recorded mixes and DJ breaks and added his own shouts and sounds to it, while playing in front of a crowd. DJ Kool Herc is considered to be the “Father Of Hip-Hop” due to his efforts and also his very skilled DJ techniques that opened up the door for many other DJ’s to learn to master or just learn from. It wasn’t until a guy named “Afrika Bambaataa” kind of thought out and gave names and terminology to the certain things that made up the music such as Rapping, DJ’ing, B-boying, and even the Graffiti which he called “Aerosol Writin”.
There’s a huge misunderstanding when it comes to Hip-Hop music and “rap” music. Rap isn’t a genre of music more than an element of it, it’s something you do in Hip-Hop. Another misconception is that Rap and Hip-Hop are pretty much the same thing when they’re very different. Like i said previously “Rap” is more of a verb that you do, but hip hop is more focused on the MC (Mic Controller, Master Of Ceremonies) the DJ, Breakdancing and graffiti art. You don’t see too much of that now-a-days. Modern days it’s less dancing and graffiti, and more talking about street credits, gang life, and hustle.
People like to consider music to be an artform so there’s no doubt at some point in time the way songs are being written are going to change. Especially when society itself changes and people start to have different outlooks on different opinions. Which has led to a whole new side of rap not yet seen before. When you look at the hip-hop, rap (whichever you’d like to call it) industry you’ll be surprised to find that there are countless types of it. Alternative(Beastie Boys, The Roots, Hollywood Undead) Bounce, Dirty South, East Coast, Gangsta, Latin, Old School, and even something very oddly named BubbleGum Trap. Knowing that “Trap” music come from selling drugs out of a drug house, being the head honcho of a drug trade, it’s hard for me to take a Genre name like that seriously. Let alone influential. Regardless, the list goes on.
A lot of things can be said about Rap music but one thing that is certain is that it undoubtedly has a huge affect on our modern society. Whatever they say is cool to do, dress, and think, usually people will follow. It’s almost as if they were some sort of musical Illuminati.
